Welcome

Thank you for your interest in preventing the spread of invasive plants in California. This course prepares participants to complete the 2026 PlantRight Nursery Survey.

What is the PlantRight Nursery Survey?

Every spring, volunteers conduct a survey of plant retailers across California to gather information about the retail market for invasive plants. The Nursery Survey helps us understand which invasive plants are currently available for sale and where they are showing up in the retail landscape, allowing us to track trends over time and inform our ongoing work with the nursery industry.

The purpose of the PlantRight Nursery Survey is to collaborate effectively with thousands of plant retailers, wholesalers and growers, provide gardeners with information about invasive plants and beautiful non-invasive alternatives for their gardens, and inform statewide invasive species mitigation goals and strategies and measure progress.

Go to the PlantRight website for more information.

Through its statewide presence, training, and commitment to public service, the UC Master Gardener Program helps collect critical data that informs PlantRight’s plant list and recommended alternatives. Beyond data collection, UC Master Gardener volunteers play a key role in advancing awareness and encouraging responsible plant choices that protect California’s landscapes, natural resources, and working lands.

Eligibility

The Nursery Survey is open to active UC Master Gardeners who successfully complete this training and pass the quiz. Volunteers who can adhere and commit to the participation and reporting requirements outlined in this training will be eligible for participation.

The PlantRight 2026 Nursery Survey will take place June 22 – July 17, 2026. Participants may complete the training at any time during the survey period.

Funded by

With funding from the With funding from the California Association of Nurseries Endowment for Research and Scholarships Foundation (CANERS), the University of California Master Gardener Program has co-developed this statewide training course with PlantRight. Through this survey, UC Master Gardener volunteers amplify the work of this important state agency, helping to keep them abreast of invasive species activity and distribution in our state.
