Course Overview
The California 4-H New Volunteer Course is a required learning experience for adults serving in their first year as a 4-H volunteer or returning after a break in service of one year or more. This course provides an introduction to the California 4-H Youth Development Program, volunteer roles and responsibilities, youth protection requirements, and the policies and practices that help create positive, safe, and welcoming environments for all youth.
Participants will complete the California 4-H Orientation, which introduces the mission of 4-H, volunteer expectations, the University of California 4-H Core Values, and the principles that guide our work with young people and communities. Volunteers will also complete the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) training and the California 4-H 2-Deep Supervision Policy course to better understand their responsibilities for youth safety and well-being.
