The audience is people who are interested in starting a vegetable farm enterprise in Piedmont North Carolina. This course is a prerequisite to participating in the Elma C Lomax farm incubator program. Our goal is for people who participate in the farm incubator program to experientially learn vegetable production and build a marketing strategy and clientele. Eventually we hope the participating farmers will leave Lomax to run their own farm. Horse owners need to be proactive in developing and implementing a plan for handling and disposing of manure. To avoid or ignore the issue may be a long-term recipe for disaster to the horse industry. Manure management options will be discussed in this lesson in addition to various aspects of pasture management including planning, renovations, and grazing practices.

All current certified fertilizer applicator on-line program participants must successfully complete their testing and submission of the CFA request to VDACS by September 1, 2020 as the current website ceases to exist on that date. 

You will be able to re-enroll in the CFA program at https://register.ext.vt.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1208465; however, there will be a minimal fee for enrollment ($10) and all testing modules will have to be completed again in the new system, regardless if they have been completed in the previous CFA program.

Fertilizer Applicator Certification Training
(FACT) is a cooperative effort of Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). The training consists of 10 online, self-paced modules, which cover the knowledge areas in which one must be proficient in order to become a Certified Fertilizer Applicator (CFA) in Virginia. 

Individuals who successfully complete all 10 modules will receive proof of satisfactory completion of the training, which can be submitted to VDACS as part of the CFA online application.

New Hampshire producers can sell poultry and rabbits (up to 20,000 poultry and 1,000 rabbits per calendar year) directly to NH restaurants without USDA inspection. In order for producers to legally sell their products in this way, they must complete the initial certification course with UNH Cooperative Extension and recertify after five years.

This recertification program fulfills the education requirement specified in the rules and will help producers continue their working plan for providing safe meat products for this market.
