The audience for this course is urban pesticide applicators, Master Gardeners and other state extension educators.

Students will learn to calculate pesticide applications using real equipment calibration examples.

By the end of the series, you will be able to:
•       Calculate basic pesticide math.
•       Calibrate yourself to your equipment.
•       Calculate pesticide applications.

A chemigation license is required for both private applicators and professional applicators if you plan to chemigate with any type of fertilizer or pesticide. This module will prepare you for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) Chemigation Exam. It is recommended that you read the Idaho Chemigation Training Manual in addition to watching this module.

For ISDA pesticide credit, follow the steps in the activity to ensure your Idaho pesticide license number is entered into your Extension Foundation profile.

Expect to spend about 60 minutes in this course. The module covers the following topics: Idaho’s laws, rules and requirements; sources of water back flow; back flow prevention; chemical injectors and tanks; field topography, soils, and chemical leaching; pesticide label requirements; and calculating field size and application rates. When you are finished listening to the course, you will be able to print a certificate with your name and date completed.

Idaho Master Gardener (MG) Pesticide Safety Education Course Site houses the university Pesticide Policy module and the Idaho MG Handbook chapter 9 Using Pesticide Safely module. The Idaho MG will learn the university pesticide policy instructions and how it relates to making pesticide recommendations, plus learn basic pesticide safety practices. The 2023 Pesticide Pre-License Course is only available to those who have pre-registered with the University of Idaho Extension http://www.uidaho.edu/ipm.  This course is designed to be both live with instructors and work on your own, at your own pace.  The course will help you learn core pesticide safety practices and prepare you for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) pesticide exams; Private Applicator (RU), Professional Applicator: Law and Safety (LS); Agricultural Herbicide (AH); Agricultural Insecticide (AI); Ornamental Herbicide (OH); Ornamental Insecticide (OI); General Pest (GP); Right of Way (RW); and Chemigation (CH).

This is a four-day class (Monday-Thursday) with instructors for 5 hours each day.  On Friday, the fifth day, the instructors will be available to answer questions.  Each person enrolled in this course will be provided handouts for class activities, including practice math problems.  Additionally, this course provides access to the 12 University of Idaho online instructional modules that supplement the class discussions.
