Vermont's Forest Pest First Detectors Program

Help protect Vermont’s forests against invasive forest pests. Learn to detect, report, and educate others on pests like the emerald ash borer and the Asian longhorned beetle.

Who Should Join?

  • Anyone interested in protecting our forests from invasive pests.
  •  Outdoor recreationists, trail users, and trail managers.
  • Beginners welcome; no prior knowledge required.
  • Forest Pest First Detectors looking for a refresher.

 By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Understand and explain the threat of invasive pests to forest health.
  2. Identify the host trees, signs and symptoms and look-alikes of key pests.
  3. Use resources like VTinvasives.org for information.
  4. Report suspected pest infestations.
  5. Volunteer to help in your community (optional)

Course Dates: March 16 – April 13, 2024
