This course is part of the Fit and Healthy Kids series. The Fit and Healthy Kids Series on-demand classes consist of 2-hour of online course work at your own pace. A team of University of Nebraska Extension Professionals offers the Fit and Healthy Kids series on-demand programming to help increase the use of best practices in caring for and educating young children across the state.

Brief Description of Training:  Tinkering helps children to understand you have to fail a few times, sometimes many times, in order to get the right answer. It is a safe way for children to go through the process of trial and error – which is an experience that children need, to develop the kind of higher-order thinking skills necessary in our rapidly changing world.

As a result of this training participants will:

1.     Identify ways to share information with parents.
2.     Design environments to promote young children’s learning.
3.     Plan activities that encourage children to explore, discover, be imaginative, and use their senses.
Child Development Subject Area:  Steps to advance children’s physical and intellectual development.
Nebraska Core Competencies:  Planning Learning Experiences/Curriculum
