Course overview
This course covers three common scale pests in citrus: cottony cushion scale, Icerya purchasi; citricola scale, Coccus pseudomagnoliarum; and the California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii. Each module in this course focuses on a different scale pest and covers life cycle and habits, damage, sampling and monitoring methods, and management including biological controls and chemical controls.
This course is available for free for those who do not need Continuing Education Units. The author of the course is Dr. Elizabeth Grafton-Cardwell (UCCE Emerita Entomology Specialist).
Pest management professionals and growers
California Department of Pesticide Regulation (1.5 hour Other) and Certified Crop Adviser (1.5 IPM).
To get the Continuing Education Units certificate you will be charged a fee of $30. To encourage taking the course earlier in the year, we offer 50% off the regular price from January through October 31st – use the code ipm50 at

This course must be completed by December 30 of the current year. Download the certificate immediately when you complete the course. You will not be able to retrieve your certificate after December 30.
