Resource for this activity:

Changing Public Behavior Self Study Modules, Step 5. Assess potential for adoption of single behaviors and the environmental practice

Look again at the Lake Ripley sample survey questions in Lesson 6.2 asking about property owners' intentions related to the preferred behavior, where intention is implied by responses to the likelihood of building a rain garden: 1=Very unlikely; 6=Very likely

Considering the six guiding questions in Step #5 (see below):

  • What survey or interview questions could you ask to help identify barriers to the likelihood of building a rain garden?
  • Could you ask the same question about other options to help you figure out what behavior is most likely to be adopted?

Post your additional survey questions, and discuss pros and cons with other course participants.

Step #5 – Guiding questions:

  • Does the behavior or practice meet an audience need or address an interest?
  • Does it have an impact on the problem?
  • Does it provide users with an observable consequence?
  • Is it similar to what the user does already?
  • Is it simple for the user to do?
  • Is it low cost in $, time and energy for the user?

If you need more background about the Guiding questions, review the online module, Step 5; or Lessons 6.1 and 6.2)
