Assignment 2.4 Behavior Change Planning Tool: Identify your audience

Resource for Assignment 2.4:

Changing Public Behavior. Educating about Behavior and the Environment planning tool, pages 1 and 2.

Directions

Look at the problem or situation you identified in Unit 1 using the Behavior Change Planning Tool Step #1 (Assignment 1.7, Make the connection between behavior and outreach).

Now, complete Step #2.

Identify your target audience and secondary audience. The secondary audience is an individual or group who can influence your target audience, such as neighbors or family members. In some cases, it is more effective to provide an outreach initiative for these influential people, or to communicate with both the target audience and the secondary audience.

For your example, write a brief paragraph that identifies the people whose behavior will make a difference.

  • How many different audiences can you identify?
  • Who can help you identify audiences?
  • Who could be part of your team?
  • How can you initiate contact with your audiences?

Check your answer by answering the question on the slide: For your situation, is the target audience you identified specific enough to solve the problem you have identified?
